Aurora Photography

A topic that has come up quite frequently recently amongst some of our members is that of the aurora (Northern Lights). Some of us have attempted to photograph it in the past few months and to a degree we succeeded. As such it was a great honour to have, in my view, one of Northern Ireland’s foremost aurora chasers and photographers Alistair Hamill.

Drawing on his daytime job as a teacher Alistair provided a very informative and well balanced presentation. Just enough techical information on how to predict the appearance of an aurora to how to photograph it when it does appear. All delivered with a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.

Once a teacher, always a teacher, Alistair even set the members some homework – Photograph an aurora before the end of March.

Many thanks to Alistair for a thoroughly enjoyable presentation.

A friendly chat with Alistair at the end of his presentation.
