Club Update – At Last

It’s been quite a while from our last update and quite a lot has happened since then. It’s been very strange times with all of our club nights moving online via Zoom. Even our judging has moved online and for the most part it has been a very pleasurable experience given the circumstances.

Since the last update we have had two addition NIPA rounds and I’m pleased to report that we have achieved another 4 starred images.

As well as the competition rounds we have had a couple of quest speakers, again via Zoom. One of the advantages of doing presentations online is that we are not restricted to speakers in our local (Northern Ireland) area. For our first speaker we ventured to England and managed to acquire the brilliant Jane Lazenby. Jane’s presentation was on the use of overlays. This was a fascinating look in to ways of enhancing images by adding textured overlays to them. Jane demonstrated this in simple terms and even told us where to get textures from, our own gardens and homes.

Next we had someone closer to home, Dungannon in fact. Eileen McCausland from Dungannon and Cookstown Camera club entertained us with an excellent presentation on Black and White photography. She showed us how to turn, sometimes, drab colour photos in to eye popping black and white ones. And as is usual with Eileen there was plenty of wit and craic.

Our third presenter was also a local photographer, John MisKelly. John’s presentation was on Long Exposure photography, with the help of Lee filters. As with the previous presenters John an insightful presentation full of excellent photographs.

With the current Covid guidelines ever changing the club committee have been working on a month by month calendar, instead of our usual yearly calendar. To date we have another couple of presenters lined up and hope to be able to plan some outdoor catchups.

So for now stay safe and we’ll update you on the club happenings soon.
